Ingredients

1 pound salted butter
1 cup light brown sugar
4 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

Soften butter. Beat in brown sugar. Mix in flour 1 cup at a time. Dough will resemble pie crust dough. Press dough together into a ball. Roll out between two sheets of waxed paper to slightly less than one-half inch thick. Bake at 350 degrees, 7 minutes on the bottom rack and 7 minutes on the top rack. Cookie tops should feel dry when done. Let cool completely and then frost with butter frosting that has been flavored with almond extract. Top with a nut or part of a green or red cherry.

CranachanCranachan

Cranachan can contain charms with special significance were folded into the mixture. You might find a ring for marriage, a button for bachelorhood, a thimble for spinsterhood, coins for wealth, and horseshoes for luck. The flavor combination of lightly toasted oatmeal, cream, sugar, and whisky is very traditional.

 

 

Ingredients

1 pint cream
3 Tbsp. clear honey
4 tbsp. whisky
4 tbsp. thick plain yogurt
6 0z. fine oatmeal
6 oz. raspberries

Instructions

Toast the oatmeal in a pan under the broiler until golden. Set aside to cool. Put the cream, honey, and whisky in a bowl and whip together until it forms peaks. Fold in the yogurt. Spoon the mixture into a       serving dish and chill and chill in the refrigerator for 2 -3 hours. Before serving, sprinkle the oatmeal over the mixture and pile the raspberries in the center. Serves 6
