I grew up in central New South Wales, Australia, on a Merino Sheep Stud located between the small towns of Nyngan and Warren. I had an idyllic childhood surrounded by animals, nature, and adventure. My family are dedicated, third-generation merino wool producers. The McLaughlin family hail from Bushmills in Northern Ireland, and our relatives, the Holtermans, still live in the original family farmhouse a short distance from the town.

Today I reside in the Sydney suburb of Haberfield, known for its Federation architecture and large sprawling gardens. To me it feels more like a country town than a suburb, with a very tight community and a slower pace than many of the neighbouring areas.

I have always been interested in fashion and have wanted to be a designer since I discovered it was a job. I have constantly created, in many different forms, however fashion design was always constant. From an early age I made things, cardboard submarines from old boxes, stylish accessories for pet cats and lambs, wooden animals from timber off-cuts, I drew, painted, then I made my own clothes. I was very fortunate to have a father and mother who loved the arts and fostered creativity. As a creative no other industry combines all my great loves – design in all its forms, textiles, art, photography, music, dance.

My creative process is both inspirational and perspirational. I am a collector, so my work often starts with a ramble through my collections of vintage or artisanal textiles.

My key strength is in my quality natural fabric selections, the exclusive textile designs, and my command of colour. My signature style and philosophy remain constant. As a niche design house, we create handcrafted designer clothing in natural fibres, where timeless design meets sustainable, nature-positive artistry.

Our store/design studio is a welcoming space where customers can see our collections coming together; the hustle and bustle of fabrics being cut, samples being sewn, patterns being made. We pride ourselves in working as a traditional design house where we make all patterns and samples in-house, while also embracing new technologies such as digital pattern making.

The reasons why I’m still involved in the industry today remain the same, and my compulsion to create is just as strong as ever. What I love most is that I’m in the business of making people happy. Dressing well is empowering. The joy the perfect outfit brings to my customers and myself is always a thrill. As a dedicated team, we all fuel each other’s passion, and it is this combined creativity and resourcefulness from which the beauty evolves.
